Rewards System

An Academic Award for Excellence will be given to the Grade Eleven student with the highest average in the Mock Examinations.

Students receive merits for:

  • Good performance in units tests
  • Good performance in examinations
  • Good work in research (group or individual)
  • Good work in practical
  • Good conduct in class and out of class
  • Marked improvement in class work
  • Initiative
  • Honesty
  • Outstanding deportment at inspection
  • Helpfulness of students to other students, teachers, or other employees on the premises.
  • Good conduct in class and out of class
  • Outstanding performance when representing the school in sporting activities, (girl guiding, cadet), talent parades, drama, festivals (Spanish, French, etc.), and others.
  • Outstanding attendance and punctuality.
Criteria For Graduation Certificate
  • Grade 10 – All students must pursue a course of study in no less than eight (8) subjects taken from those offered in the pool in which they are placed.
  • No student will be allowed to discontinue a subject at the end of Grade 10.
  • Grade 11- Students must pursue a course of study in all subjects pursued in grade 10 to be examined by CXC- CSEC. All SBA’s must also be submitted.

NB. Students who do not sit their eight (8) CXC-CSEC (including Mathematics and English) at 11th Grade will not qualify for a Certificate of Distinction but a School Leaving Certificate. They will also not qualify for any Ardenne High School or National CXC - CSEC awards.

Admission to Sixth Form

Admission to Sixth Form will be based on both academic and non-academic criteria. Students will be assessed in the following areas:

  • Performance in the CSEC
  • Leadership qualities
  • Attendance to school and classes
  • Punctuality to school and classes
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities
  • Conduct/deportment (the number of truancies, demerits and suspensions) will be taken into consideration
  • Compliance with the guidelines set by teachers with regards to the SBA
  • Fulfilling community service obligations.
  • Compliance in payment of required fee

This assessment will be used to determine if the student matriculates to the Sixth Form level.

Academic Assessment

To be considered for admission to Grade 12, applicants must pass at least 6 subjects at the CSEC General Proficiency Level or GCE Ordinary Level Examinations or a combination of the two. At the CESC level, students must obtain at least 4 subjects with grade 1. At the GCE, O’ level, students must obtain at least 4, As. Students short-listed will then be interviewed before the final decision is made.

Students who do not perform at the required standard will be asked to leave at the end of Grade Twelve (12).

Students entering Ardenne at the Sixth Form level will be asked to furnish all necessary documents for registration. This will include recommendations from the last school attended. The Administration reserves the right not to accept any student whose conduct is not of the standard accepted at Ardenne.

Valedictory Service

All Grade Eleven students are invited to the Valedictory and Prizegiving Service. However, the school reserves the right to exclude any student whose conduct does not represent the standards of Ardenne High School.

The service will take place on the first Sunday in July commencing at 5:00 p.m. on the school’s grounds.
The dress for the Valedictory Service is an academic gown and mortarboard.
The girls will wear their school uniform under the gown along with black shoes.
The boys will wear long sleeve white shirts with khaki pants under the gown, along with black or brown shoes.

Criteria for students’ participation in the Valedictory Service

  • Completion of CXC/CSEC programme in at least 8 subjects assigned in grade 10.
  • Students must have registered for the CXC/CSEC examination in at least 8 subjects assigned from grade 10.
  • Satisfactory completion and submission of the School Based Assessment (SBA) as stipulated by the school.
  • Completion of Community Service of at least 15 hours each year from Grades 9 through Grade 11. For each year, these 15 hours should be completed in no fewer than five visits.
  • Active involvement in at least one co-curricular activity in the 9th, 10th and 11th Grades.
  • A disciplinary record free of suspensions in Grades 10 and 11 (including accumulation of demerits, truancies and late attendance to school).
  • Payment of all fees required by the school.

Criteria for Valedictorian


  • The Valedictorian will be voted for by his/her peers; however, the final decision will be made by the Academic Staff.
  • Outstanding academic performance in grades ten and eleven.
  • Involvement in Co-curricular activities, completion of 15 hrs of Community Service per year.
  • Exemplary behaviour, that is, no suspensions, detentions nor demerits
  • All SBA’s must be completed and submitted.
